How to keep my nose clean & stop bleeding

If you’re dealing with a nosebleed or trying to prevent one, there are a few things you can do to both stop the bleeding and keep your nose clean:

To Stop a Nosebleed:

  1. Pinch Your Nostrils: Pinch the soft part of your nose just below the bony bridge. Hold it for 5-10 minutes, breathing through your mouth.

  2. Sit Up: Stay upright rather than lying down to prevent blood from flowing down the back of your throat.

  3. Apply a Cold Compress: Place a cold compress or ice pack on the back of your neck or the bridge of your nose. This helps constrict blood vessels.

  4. Avoid Blowing Your Nose: Don’t blow your nose right after a nosebleed, as it can cause the bleeding to start again.

  5. Use a Humidifier: Dry air can contribute to nosebleeds, so keeping the air moist can help prevent them.

To Keep Your Nose Clean:

  1. Nasal Irrigation: Using a saline nasal spray or saline rinse (like a neti pot) can help clear out any dirt, dust, or mucus.

  2. Moisturize Your Nasal Passages: Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or use a nasal gel inside your nostrils to keep the lining moist, especially in dry conditions.

  3. Avoid Picking Your Nose: This can cause irritation and lead to bleeding.

  4. Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to keep your mucus membranes hydrated.

  5. Use a Humidifier: Especially in dry climates, adding moisture to the air can help prevent dryness in your nasal passages.

If Nosebleeds Are Frequent:

If you’re having repeated nosebleeds, it might be helpful to consult a doctor. It could be due to allergies, a sinus issue, or another underlying condition.
